Many people consider "going with the flow" to be a trait that applies to things like going to see a different movie, getting Mexican instead of pasta. For me, going with the flow has extended into my professional life. I started as a playwriting/screenwriting major at Drexel, but after leaving the school I was switched to journalism as I was applying to UT Austin. I've always known what my passions are (writing and sharing stories) but sometimes those things have taken different titles and forms over the years. Journalism felt like the greatest use of my skills and passions that turned into an actual degree in 2016.
Heck, I helped start an intro to archery program at a local Jewish community center in 2016 based on my own personal hobby and summer camp experience. Archery started as a hobby and then became a job. Which is pretty cool. I never expected to work with kids professionally, but that's the opportunity I was given and I have and will continue to do what I can to continue a successful program. Not that I ever forgot about my degree, I just found additional uses for the professional experience in communication.
I've never had a problem with changing settings. A running knowledge of film, TV and pop culture is a starting ground for many conversations, but going into journalism has given me so much more to talk about.
